Just because it's so near to my heart, I want to take a moment to talk about Cystic Fibrosis. It's a term that most people have heard, but only few understand.

Here are the facts about Cystic Fibrosis, which is a recessive genetic disease:

• 1 in 29 Caucasians are carriers 
• 30,000 people in the US have CF
• 70,000 people worldwide have CF
• 1,000 new cases of CF are diagnosed each year
• thick, sticky mucus coats the lungs and pancreas
• characterized by frequent lung infections and digestive issues
• average life span is 37
